The CIGIP team has developed the Supply Chain Optimisation (SCO) tool of the European Wood2Wood (W2W) project. Supply chains are the backbone of a circular economy and, if designed well, they improve secondary material flows throughout the recycling process.

The tool supports companies in making better decisions to foster circularity:

  • it uses advanced algorithms and data analysis to simulate scenarios and find the most cost-effective and efficient supply chain design and operations for moving secondary materials through the recycling process;
  • it determines optimal inventory levels of secondary materials across supply chain stages to meet demand while minimising costs;
  • it optimises transport through carrier and mode selection, routing and scheduling;
  • it generates custom reports and tracks performance metrics over time to identify areas for improvement and refine the recycling process.

The tool was developed by Raúl Poler, Javier Cuartas Micieces, Francisco Fraile and Carlos Baviera Martínez. You can see how it works in the project video and visit the Wood2Wood project page.
